A man was injured following an "assault" at a takeaway in Hull, police have said.

Worried witnesses said they had seen an unusual number of police officers at the shop in Newland Avenue at around 5.30pm last night, Bank Holiday Monday.

Humberside Police said it was called to reports of an "assault" at a takeaway and confirmed a man had suffered injuries to his face. There have been no reports of any arrests and the man's injuries are not believed to be severe.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "Officers were called at around 5.30pm yesterday (Monday 6 May) to reports of an assault at a takeaway on Newland Avenue in Hull. One man suffered facial injuries as a result of the incident."
