A man who stalked and threw a knife at his ex-partner has been jailed. Andrzej Kopysc, 53, is reported to have gone to the victim’s Cambridge home and struck the front door with a hammer on September 3.

He also reportedly threatened her whilst waving a hammer in her face and was subsequently arrested by the police. He was released on bail with the conditions that he was not allowed to contact the woman or return to her home.

Nevertheless, he appeared there again on November 7, and banged on her windows. He then went back the following week and tried to hang himself on a tree outside the property. The next day he banged on the windows again before finally leaving the area.

The victim told officers about another incident in June last year in which Kopysc threw a knife at her, cutting her upper arm. When officers told her he had been arrested again, she showed them text messages that he had sent her whilst on bail.

Kopysc, of no known address, was charged and remanded into custody at HMP Peterborough. During his time in prison, he wrote to the victim asking for her help.

He admitted to charges of stalking and assault of a person occasioning actual bodily harm. He denied threatening a person with an offensive weapon and the judge ordered the charge to lie on file. He was jailed for 19 months on Friday, June 14 at Cambridge Crown Court.

DC Charmaine Wood said “Kopysc’s behaviour towards the victim was disgusting. The knife attack could easily have been much worse and resulted in more serious injury.

“Not content with attacking her, he then went on to harass her as she tried to carry on with her life. We will continue to do all we can to protect victims of domestic abuse and bring perpetrators before the courts.”
