Man leaves hospital after knife wounds to neck in village assault

A man who suffered knife wounds to his neck in a village assault has been discharged from hospital.

Police were called to Berinsfield near Wallingford at around 9.20pm on Wednesday following reports of an assault near the parade of shops on Fane Drive.

Nearby homeowners said they saw a forensic tent on the green area next to the St Mary & St Berin Church car park in Green Furlong.

One eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, said a police cordon on the road and common was still in place at 2am today (Thursday, June 27) admitting the incident had “scared" her children.

She added that the cordon behind the church, which is opposite the parade of shops on Fane Drive, had been removed by the time they had woken up at 6.30am.

Villagers also took to social media after the incident with reports of multiple police cars and ambulances parked by the flats near the church opposite the Co-op.

Thames Valley Police confirmed a man had been taken to hospital with an knife wounds to his neck but he has since been discharged.

District councillor Robin Bennett, who represents Berinsfield, has been contacted for comment.

The Green Party councillor said he was not aware of this incident when we approached him on Thursday morning.

He has been contacted again for comment on Friday.
