A MAN threatened to kill a sheriff after kicking off in the street in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Thomas Flannigan contacted cops by calling 999 at 2.10am on January 1, 2024. During the conversation, concerns were raised for his welfare.

Officers found him on Saracen Street in Possilpark with his hands in the air.

The 28-year-old shouted, “Let’s f*****g go” and “You f*****g c***s” towards police.

He was waving his arms around, but the officers managed to place him in handcuffs and lifted him to a police van.

Flannigan was taken to Helen Street police officer where he continued his aggressive behaviour.

Whilst in a holding cell, he spat towards an officer. He was taken to the ground and a spit hood was applied.

He then told an officer “Go back to China you Black b*****d”.

When being taken to a cell, he said: “Take me to f*****g court and I’ll kill the sheriff that’s on”.

He was cautioned and charged and made no reply.

In another incident on Broad Street on June 8, 2023, Flannigan made offensive remarks towards a woman regarding her disabilities.

His lawyer said: “He has mental health problems. He is a vulnerable individual and has no real support in terms of family and friends.

“He is currently receiving support from the social work department. There are a number of different agencies involved at this stage. There is progress being made but still a long way to go.

“I would ask if you could allow him to retain his liberty so he can continue making this progress with his addiction issues.”

Sheriff Jonathan Guy told Flannigan: “It seems the most positive aspect is that you have a stable address which is something you’ve not previously had.

“I will give you the opportunity to make progress. If you don’t do that, you’re going to be sent back to custody for a substantial period of time.”

He was tagged and ordered to stay within his home in Maryhill between 7pm-7am.

The sheriff added: “I have taken into account the seriousness of the offence and your record.”
