Man named in EncroChat probe

A 54-year-old man has been charged with the supply of cocaine as part of an investigation into encrypted devices.

Carl Patrick Murphy, of Home Farm Road, Knowsley Village was arrested on Thursday June 13 in connection with information found as part of Operation Venetic: a national investigation into the use of EncroChat mobile devices.

The data related to the supply of significant quantities of cocaine and cash.

Murphy has since been charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine and conspiracy to conceal/disguise/transfer/remove criminal property. He has been remanded into custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court today (Friday June 14).
