Murder arrest as man, 20, dies ‘after being run over’ in Halfords car park

Police have launched a murder investigation after a 20-year-old man was allegedly run over and killed in a car park in Birmingham on Friday.

Officers found the victim, who suffered serious head injuries, under a white Volkswagen Golf in a Halford’s car park on Coventry Road, Sheldon, just before midnight.

Police said he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Members of the public detained a 25-year-old man at the scene and he was then arrested on suspicion of murder, police confirmed.

West Midlands Police said in a statement: “We’ve launched a murder investigation after the death of a man who was run over on a car park in Birmingham last night (Friday).

“Our officers were called to reports of disorder on the car park of Halfords on Coventry Road, Sheldon, just before midnight.

"We arrived to find a 20-year-old man under a white VW Golf, after having apparently been run over.

“He had serious head injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.”

Officers remained at the scene on Saturday as investigations continue, and are in the process of recovering CCTV footage of the area.

Police added: “We are supporting with the family of the victim and a post-mortem will be held in due course.”
