Man runs 2:41 marathon, dressed in a banana suit
On Sunday 19 January 2020, Jordan Maddocks became the fastest man in the world to run a marathon in a banana costume. His time? An extremely impressive 2:41:27.
Maddocks wore the banana costume to run 26.2 at the Rock n’ Roll Arizona Marathon, breaking the previous record by six minutes. Maddocks, from Salt Lake City in Utah, first decided to run in a banana suit in 2019, supporting a friend who was undergoing a double lung transplant. He returned to race this year in support of his father, who was running his first marathon.

A 2:34 marathon runner, in a video shared on the Rock n’ Roll Marathon series Twitter page, Maddocks said “I’m always looking for anything that will make marathon training interesting. The beauty of running is that there’s always a bigger mountain to climb.”
Maddocks ran wearing his full banana costume, and a pair of Nike’s Next% running shoes, the fastest running shoes of 2019 according to Strava.
The Guinness World Record for the fastest male half marathon dressed as a fruit was set at the Toronto Marathon on Sunday 20 October. Melvin Nyairo ran the half marathon in 01:15:35.
