A MAN was rushed to hospital after a crash on the A12 which led to standstill traffic for motorists.

The incident occurred on the London-bound carriageway at about noon, between Junction 27 at the Avenue of Remembrance Roundabout and Junction 28 for the Colchester United stadium.

One lane of the carriageway was blocked after the crash, which AA Traffic reported led to an overturned vehicle.

Traffic was at a standstill for drivers, with congestion backing up onto the slip road and Via Urbis Romanae, with traffic very slow around the Northern Gateway development.

The East of England Ambulance Service later confirmed its attendance and that one person was taken to hospital.

A spokesman said: “We were called just before 12.30pm with reports of a road traffic collision on the A12 between junctions 28 and 27 involving a single vehicle”.

“An ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene. One patient, an adult male, was transported to Colchester Hospital for further care.”

The road was later reopened with traffic returning to normal in time for rush hour.
