Man who set himself on fire outside Trump trial dies of injuries, police say

A man who doused himself in an accelerant and set himself on fire outside the New York courthouse where former US president Donald Trump is on trial has died, police said. The New York City Police Department said the man was declared dead by hospital staff. He was in Collect Pond Park at around 1.30pm local time on Friday when he took out pamphlets espousing conspiracy theories, threw them around, then doused himself in an accelerant and set himself on fire, officials and witnesses said. A large number of police officers were nearby, with officers and bystanders rushed to the aid of the man, who was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
