Man suffers life-threatening injuries after 'off-road buggy' smashes into lamppost

A man has been left with life-threatening injuries after a crash involving an 'off-road buggy' in Stockport.

The smash happened on Siddington Avenue in Adswood at around 6.40pm on Wednesday (June 12). Emergency crews raced to the scene after the buggy smashed into a lamppost.

Fire crews used cutting gear to release the driver from the battered vehicle. A 40-year-old man was then rushed to hospital from the scene.

In an appeal issued today (June 14), a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said the man suffered life-threatening injuries. After the incident, police taped off the road outside Bridge Hall Community Centre and at Siddington Avenue Park.

An air ambulance was spotted leaving the scene just before 7pm after landing nearby. Any witnesses, or anyone who with CCTV, dash cam, phone or doorbell footage, are now being urged to get in touch with GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

A force spokesperson said: "At around 6:38pm on Wednesday 12 June 2024, we were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Siddington Avenue, Stockport where a vehicle collided with a lamppost. Emergency services attended and a 40-year-old man was taken to hospital.

"His injuries are believed to be life-threatening. GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

"They are keen to speak with anyone who may have any CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area at the time of the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741, quoting reference 2800 on 12/06/2024.
