He-Man takes gamble with directors known for $20k budget films

By the power of Grayskull, the He-Man film is actually coming to screens.

Sony Pictures and Mattel have landed on directing duo Aaron and Adam Nee to guide Masters of the Universe, Variety reports. The pair are well-known for their low-budget projects, with The Last Romantic being shot on DV for under $20,000.

Based on the Mattel toyline, the concept sees He-Man and his friends form the last defence of the realm of Eternia and the secrets of Castle Grayskull, fighting off the evil forces of Skeletor.

The toys spawned their own beloved animated TV series, which ran from 1983 to 1985, alongside the 1987 film, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor.

The newest film adaptation is written by David Goyer, who also acts as executive producer; he originally looked to direct, but had to back away due to scheduling issues.

Sony has already set a release date for 18 December 2019.
