Manchester United are reportedly looking at Wolves talent Joao Gomes and Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte this summer amid their search for a new midfielder.

Gomes, 23, has started in each of Brazil’s three Copa America games so far and began 32 of his 34 Premier League outings last season, proving to be a versatile asset. Gomes has played as a pivot for his country this summer, but can also play as a more central figure.

United are looking to bolster midfield numbers with the futures of several players uncertain. Casemiro is widely expected to exit two years into his five-year deal after a drab season, while United are yet to make a final decision over Sofyan Amrabat.

His loan from Fiorentina has now expired but Erik ten Hag plans to speak with new sporting director Dan Ashworth about a possible return later this month.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims United are keeping tabs on Gomes but are not the only club interested in him. Wolves have apparently not yet been approached by any potential new suitor, including United.

Gomes joined Wolves from Brazilian outfit Flamengo 18 months ago for £15m and his club are expected to seek a profit from any sale. It is being claimed that United are assessing a number of options besides Gomes.

United and PSG have reportedly spoken about a possible deal for Ugarte, who only arrived in Paris last summer after the French champions triggered his £51m release clause in his Sporting Lisbon contract.

PSG are thought hesitant to allow his permanent exit but are open to the idea of a loan for the Uruguayan, who has also started all three of his nation’s Copa America matches. Ugarte - a natural defensive midfielder - played 37 games for PSG last term, grabbing three assists in 25 Ligue 1 outings.
