Manchester United’s star-studded lineup will be licking their wounds after the shock 2-1 defeat to Young Boys in their Champions League opener. As such, they’ll want to get back to winning ways against West Ham today and rejoin Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

Raphael Varane and Mason Greenwood are among those who return for the trip to the London Stadium. Both players were left out of the starting lineup in Switzerland, and while Varane was summoned at half-time after Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card, Greenwood was afforded the whole night off.

Wan-Bissaka is available to face the Hammers, with his suspension only applying to Uefa competition, and starts at right-back. Scott McTominay is fit again and reunites with fellow returnee Fred in defensive midfield, with Paul Pogba moved into a more attacking role.

Cristiano Ronaldo again leads the line with Edinson Cavani ruled out, but Solskjaer has hinted the Uruguayan could return in time for the Carabao Cup tie against the same opposition next week.

“Edinson hopefully will start training with us after the weekend,” Solskjaer said. “Hopefully, maybe Monday.

“Maybe he’ll be involved on Wednesday because he had a fantastic season last season.”

Marcus Rashford remains a longer-term absentee, while Dean Henderson stepped up his recovery by playing for the U23s against Arsenal earlier this week.
