Manchester Airport bosses have issued a warning to all passengers amid some travel disruption.

Thousands of people pass through the international airport's three terminals each day, with direct flights in operation to some 181 destinations across 54 countries. Many passengers are being urged to give themselves "plenty of time" to get to the airport today.

It comes as TransPennine Express said: "Customers planning to travel today (23/05) between #Manchester and #Scotland are advised not to travel and claim a full refund. Customers with tickets for today can use them to travel tomorrow (24/05)".

A follow-up post on X, formerly Twitter, from Manchester Airport's official account on Thursday said: "If you are travelling to the airport, please allow plenty of time for your journey and take care."

Much of the UK is being battered by rain today (Thursday) amid a number of weather warnings from the Met Office. Its weather experts have warned we can expect "some flooded road", as well as "spray and flooding" and "delays or cancellations to train and bus services".

Met Office advice says to plan ahead, and ensure you are able to travel safely.
