Manchester Airport says 'we apologise' amid warning to passengers

Manchester Airport bosses have taken to social media to apologise as passengers face "disruption".

The airport is one of the UK's busiest, with thousands of people departing and arriving each day. A post on X, formerly Twitter, from the airport's official account on Thursday said: "Information for passengers on UK Border Force's nationwide issue affecting eGates.

"UK Border Force is experiencing nationwide issues affecting eGates at a number of airports, including Manchester. Our resilience team is supporting UK Border Force staff to minimise disruption to passengers whilst they fix the problem.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time and thank you for your patience and understanding".

A spokesperson for the Home Office said earlier today: “We are aware of a technical issue affecting eGates across the country. We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and apologise to all passengers for the inconvenience caused.”

Liverpool John Lennon Airport told the Express it is not impacted by issues with eGates as it does not have any.

Update - as of 7.11pm on Thursday, April 25, Manchester Airport said the issue has now been resolved.
