Manchester City make 'enquiry' for £50m midfielder as Julian Alvarez transfer stance emerges

Manchester City have reportedly made an enquiry for RB Leipzig midfielder Daniel Olmo.

That's according to Sports Zone, who claim that the 26-year-old's £50million (€60m) release clause that can be triggered this summer. City are reported to be one of the clubs to have approached the Bundesliga outfit along with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have also been credited with an interest. The latter is claimed to be keeping tabs on Olmo with a view to make a move when the transfer window opens.

Meanwhile, German outlet Bild (via Football 365) add that City could use Josko Gvardiol's 'close' relationship with Olmo to convince him to move to the Etihad Stadium. They add that an exit looks likely with 'the signs pointing to a farewell', though his involvement in the European Championships may delay any transfer.

Olmo, who recently spoke about his future, told Mundo Deportivo: "I’m open to possibilities that may arise, but I’m going to give you a cliché: I’m focused on the first game of the European Championship."

Since joining Leipzig in 2020, he has gone on to make 148 appearances for the German outfit, scoring 29 goals and providing 34 assists along the way.

Elsewhere, Julian Alvarez continues being linked with a move away from the Etihad. The Argentina international enjoyed a productive second season, stepping up during Kevin De Bruyne's absence and when Erling Haaland was out injured.

Alvarez then had to settle for a place on the bench when both returned, which has fuelled speculation over whether he could leave to be a first choice elsewhere. The Athletic claims that his first-choice destination is Real Madrid amid links to Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

The report adds that he has been open to a move for 'several months', though a move to the Spanish giants is 'not going to happen' this summer. Speaking to ESPN while on international duty with Argentina, he said: "These are things that are said, but I am calm. I am comfortable and happy at City. We will see what happens."
