Manchester United hold talks with Marseille about Mason Greenwood amid interest from six clubs

Marseille are the latest club to contact Manchester United about Mason Greenwood.

United have held discussions with the French club, who have just appointed former Brighton coach Roberto de Zerbi, and Lazio about Greenwood. Marseille's interest has been described as "serious".

Greenwood, 22, has also generated interest from Juventus, Napoli, Valencia and Benfica. Napoli sources say Greenwood's reputed £30million valuation is too steep for a player who would be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement in the January transfer window.

Lazio considered signing Greenwood last year and discussions with the Rome club are understood to be ongoing.

United sources last week described Greenwood's probable departure as more "advanced" than Jadon Sancho's. United are proactively seeking a buyer for both players.

Greenwood last played for United in January 2022. He was arrested later that month before charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped in February 2023.

United had intended to reintegrate Greenwood back into the first team squad but a backlash from supporters forced them into a U-turn and he signed for Getafe on transfer deadline day in September. Greenwood is out of contract next summer.
