Manchester United resume their fading Premier League charge at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon (3pm) when they go up against relegation-threatened Burnley. Erik ten Hag will be without as many as seven defenders for the game as injury problems continue to hamper his squad in their pursuit for European qualification.

Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw have returned to training at Carrington, but the Burnley meeting is expected to come too soon for them, with Willy Kambwala, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tyrell Malacia on the mend. That means Casemiro will almost-certainly continue alongside Harry Maguire at centre-back.

Despite his limited options defensively, Ten Hag should welcome Mason Mount back into the matchday squad as he looks to make up for lost time following his £60million transfer from Chelsea last summer. Mount could force a route back into the team in attacking quarters with Antony, perhaps, the most at risk.

Antony and Amad Diallo shared game-time against Sheffield United with Marcus Rashford missing. Rashford is not ready to return against Burnley, meaning the attack will comprise of Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho plus one.

Kobbie Mainoo and United captain Bruno Fernandes are certainties to make the line-up with, arguably, the biggest decision for Ten Hag to make coming alongside those two in the engine room. Christian Eriksen got the nod against Sheffield United, but he was hauled off with 64 minutes on the clock as Scott McTominay took his spot.

Ten Hag must decide whether he needs extra craft - or graft - when selecting between those two. It was 2-2 when Eriksen made-way for McTominay and United went on to beat their rock-bottom opponents in the closing minutes.

France striker Anthony Martial has returned to training. However, he will not be fit enough to face Burnley.

Manchester United's predicted starting XI vs Burnley (4-2-3-1): Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Maguire, Dalot; Mainoo, McTominay; Antony, Fernandes (captain), Garnacho; Hojlund.
