Manchester United are negotiating the deal that would take Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford, including the number of installments and add-ons Borussia Dortmund will receive for the England forward.

Dortmund want a Premier League record fee of £108 million for Sancho and the club have also made it clear they intend any deal to be completed before August 10 so they can fully prepare for the Bundesliga season.

Telegraph Sport revealed on March 2 that personal terms will be straightforward between United and Sancho once the two clubs agree a fee. Discussions have continued over the deal this week but there is yet to be a breakthrough.

It is understood United are willing to be patient in their attempt to land Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No 1 target for the summer window, with the English window running until October 5 and giving them plenty of time to submit offers.

Sancho, 20, is set his sights on a move back to England after three seasons in Germany where he arrived as a Manchester City Academy graduate for £8 million and was swiftly in the first-team and forcing his way into the England squad.

At the start of last season it was widely reported that he had agreed a new £190,000-a-week contract at Dortmund to stay beyond 2022 but a new deal has never been announced to extend a deal with two seasons left to run.

Dortmund, however, appear resigned to selling Sancho and have stepped up their efforts to sign a replacement before the start of the season.

They disciplined Sancho last season when he was late back from international duty. He was also subbed in the first half against Bayern Munich and accused of not being focused when his team played Barcelona in the Champions League.

But he was still Dortmund’s top performer with 17 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga, which saw him earmarked as Solskjaer’s top target for the right-wing role he wants to fill.

Michael Zorc, Dortmund's sporting director, also denied Sancho’s calf injury when football restarted after the coronavirus pandemic was a cover-up for breaking lockdown rules and going into quarantine. He was fined, however, by German football authorities for breaching lockdown rules when he had a haircut.

United and Dortmund have gone head-to-head in the last two transfer window. The Germany giants won the race for 17-year-old English midfielder Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City. And they also landed Norway forward Erling Braut Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg in January.
