Man's body found around a mile away from where he was struck by lorry

Police are investigating after the body of a man was found around a mile away from where he was hit by a lorry in western Scotland.

Officers were called to the A85 in the Pennyfuir area of Oban at around 1.55am on Thursday after the man's body was found at the side of the road.

Police said it later emerged the man had been hit by a lorry on nearby George Street a short time earlier.

The force has not confirmed how far his body was found from where the collision took place.

George Street is around a mile away from the Pennyfuir area of the A85 - around a five minute journey by car.

Police Scotland said the lorry driver and the vehicle have been traced and enquiries are ongoing.

The A85 was closed in both directions between Connel and Oban after the collision.

George Street in Oban was also closed.

Inspector Roy McCarney, from the Dumbarton Road Policing Unit, said: "Emergency services remain at the scene as we work to establish the circumstances of the incident.

"Anyone with further information on the incident should call police on 101, quoting incident 0255 of 27 June, 2024."
