THE birthplace of a legendary Cheshire mountaineer has been put up for sale.

Newton Hall in Mobberley is recognised as where explorer George Mallory was born on June 18, 1886.

Mallory, who went missing with fellow mountaineer Andrew Irvine in 1924 while climbing Everest, lived in the Newton Hall Lane house for about five years.

Now the Grade II Listed, six-bedroom country house is being marketed by estate agents Jackson-Stops at £6.95 million.

Sitting in around 6.5 acres, the property has an 'outstanding' refurbished interior, stable bock and manege, outdoor swimming pool and a grass tennis court.

On entering the house, guests are welcomed in an entrance hall, to the right of which is a living room.

Also accessed off the entrance hall is the library, which itself leads to the dining room as well as the kitchen/breakfast room, a pantry and another living area.

Other rooms found on the ground floor include an orangery, a gym, a study, a cloakroom, a laundry room and a utility room.

A glazed walkway leading from the kitchen goes through to the gym, from which the triple detached garage can also be accessed.

Heading upstairs guests will find four bedrooms, including the principal suite, which itself comes with a dressing room and en suite bathroom.

The three remaining bedrooms on this floor also boast en suites.

Two further bedrooms, served by a bathroom, are found on the second floor.

Outside, there is a detached stable block, complete with two stables, a tack room and a feed room.

There are also various store sheds, as well as a post and railed manege.

One highlight of the grounds, aside from the 'beautifully landscaped' gardens, is the heated outdoor pool, with a nearby wooden summer/pool house.
