Marcus Rashford should have simply brushed off the Manchester United fans who seemed to be heckling him at Old Trafford, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The former footballer suggested that the forward should rise above the criticism and even hinted that a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer might be best.

The incident took place during the pre-match warm-ups of United's home game against Newcastle United on Wednesday, which the Red Devils won 3-2 in their final match at Old Trafford this season, reports the Mirror.

In a video shared on social media, Rashford approached some fans who appeared to be taunting him before exchanging words as he was led away from the situation by a few of his team-mates, including Christian Eriksen.

The England international made his first appearance since sustaining an injury in United's 4-3 victory over Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final last month, coming on in the 83rd minute.

As the season draws to a close, a challenging period for Rashford will soon come to an end. He has struggled to replicate his impressive goal-scoring form of last season, when he scored a career-best 30 goals in all competitions, compared to just eight this campaign.

Rashford's reaction to the heckling United fans was discussed on talkSPORT, where Aston Villa legend Agbonlahor had a few things to say about the incident. "I can see the PSG move working for him and Manchester United," the 37-year-old suggested.

"That abuse there was probably a couple of fans and what you have got to do as a football player Al (Alan Brazil), you've been there, you've got to ignore it. Sometimes your own fans can come for you and you have got to ignore it and just pretend you can't hear it."

Rashford's form in front of goal has been a worry for United fans, with Erik ten Hag calling for everyone to rally around the star. After the penalty shoot-out victory over Coventry in the FA Cup, Ten Hag remarked: "I have a lot of sympathy for Rashy, of course.

"Last year, he had a brilliant season; I think the best in his career. I think it was 30 goals. We can see what he is capable of. This season, he hasn't given the performances and people are very critical and I think we have to back him. Everyone should back him and should push him to get back to the levels he had last year."
