Martin Lewis breaks silence over new DWP rules that'll 'hit people in face'

Martin Lewis has broken his silence over proposed disability benefits reform and a crackdown from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) which affects PIP and more. Mr Lewis spoke out in his new BBC Sounds podcast, and was backed by a charity.

Writing on Twitter/X in a message to Mr Lewis, which was re-shared by the ITV presenter and Money Saving Expert founder, Mental Health wrote: "The first 5 minutes reiterate Martin's advice to try to ignore this week's political rhetoric about benefits & #mentalhealth.

"He calls it "political spittle that travels across and hits people in the face" Nothing has happened yet - and may not do so." The group went on to say: "Have a listen." It comes after a DWP green paper put forward a series of proposals for a PIP shake-up including the end of cash vouchers.

Earl Gray replied: "Good ol government. I remember when I was having ECT treatment & they kept forcing me to turn up for job interviews or thrown off these so called "Benefits"!" Earlier this week, Mr Lewis spoke out at length about the proposals on social media.

The MSE founder said: "This type of debate is given attention to create political news and put clear water between parties in an election year. Sadly doing that in the area of mental health, can have a real human impact, terrifying people about changes that may never happen So if you're worried about it, while I know its easy to say and hard to do, forget it - for now it is still political hot air."

In reply, a follower said: "Thank you for this post, as someone who supports a family member with this awful diagnosis, it’s been very difficult. This would be a terrible thing to introduce, even more do when there is only limited support and MH waiting lists are years!"

A second wrote: "Many people are very distressed including myself. Today is the second time I have been advised that it won’t happen overnight. Can you imagine if you knew in the future you are going to loose your income and home…you wouldn’t sleep any easier, you will just worry for longer."
