Martin Lewis issues Virgin Media warning after customers get seven-word message

Martin Lewis has issued a Virgin Media warning to customers after punters tried to quote his advice and haggle down their contracts. The BBC Sounds podcast host and ITV star, who has a swathe of roles on ITV, shared a tweet from a loyal Money Saving Expert reader.

Dhruti Shah tweeted: "Quoted @MartinSLewis and Money Saving Expert to @virginmedia and the importance of negotiating deals. And was told 'don't believe everything you see on television'. My background is tackling disinfo and misinfo and was like, oh the cheek - Martin Lewis and his show cuts through."

In reply, Twitter/X user Chris said: "My contract with VM ends this summer, not quite sure when, not heard anything from VM yet though." Phil Carson said: "Did you get the deal you wanted? My contract is up in September.

"Already been offered three ‘deals’ by email/phone which aren’t as good as my current deal nor anywhere near as good as the new customer deals on their website.." In reply, Virgin said: "Hi Phil, we're sorry to hear your discounts are coming to an end. We can only offer what's available at the time. We can do a package review with you to see if there is anything more suitable? If you wish to do this, pop us a DM."

"You get the best deals when you actually give notice on your contract. Be brave, they will almost certainly contact you within the month's notice period and offer you a lower price," Mel said. Richard said: "Just seen this. We called recently when out of contract.

"Virgin dropped from 86 a month to 35 a month - same package !!" David wrote: "I was offered a deal via email, phoned up to negotiate and got offered far worse terms, then the email deal was withdrawn. Eventually got offered the email deal again but only after threatening to leave and giving it a couple of days."
