Mr Lewis shot back: "Actually we do. Both for them, for their wellbeing, and crucially for the state of the economy. Too many people not working is detrimental for all." Twitter user Phil said: "They'll be running schools just using teaching assistants. Very much like the NHS employing under qualified Physician associates."

Susan said: "But the Secretary of State for Education can afford to pay 50k a year for a personal photographer Martin. Beggars belief." Jayne said: "It was refreshing that the former Head of my sons' boys school, with a technology specialism, held a career in manufacturing before she entered the teaching profession.

"She had different take on leadership, motivation, discipline etc. Very short-sighted decision by this gov't." Rachel said: "Worth noting that Now Teach doesn't provide teacher training. They recommend teacher training providers to career changers. Teacher training providers already support career changers and new degree apprenticeships may be a good way into teaching for career changers, too."

"So disappointing when highly skilled professionals who have had apprentices throughout their careers, especially when T-Levels needs to be taught," Angela said.
