Martin Sheen is putting one foot in front of the other.

The West Wing alum, who underwent quadruple bypass surgery in December, was photographed taking a stroll with his wife of nearly 55 years, Janet, in Malibu, California, on Wednesday. It is the first time the 75-year-old father of Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez has been snapped by paparazzi since the procedure.

Sheen was casually dressed for the outing, wearing sneakers, sweats, a windbreaker, and a visor. He was looking good — we’d assume thanks in part to recovering in beautiful Malibu.

In December, Emilio shared an update — and a photo — of his pops after his surgery, which he described as “successful.” Our favorite part of the post was the photo:

“With my mother Janet and our family by his side and under the coordination of his extraordinary team of cardiologists, doctors and nurses, my father displayed great courage, strength and humility as he took on this challenge,” Emilio wrote. He added that the Emmy-winning actor would resume work on the Netflix series Grace and Frankie early this year.

The end of 2015 was an action-packed one for the Sheen family patriarch. In November, his son Charlie disclosed his HIV-positive status, a decision which made Martin proud. “I couldn’t believe the level of courage I was witnessing, and that it was my son,” he said the next day.

Courageousness runs in the family.
