Marty Wilde will have a heart operation after collapsing earlier this year.

The 50s rock star, now 81, revealed he suffered a health scare in the summer, which saw him rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Wilde explained that he was going to receive further treatment.

“I got an irregular heartbeat which is going to be fixed shortly,” he said. “In two weeks’ time I go in for a small op.

”Originally I just collapsed, I didn’t know what it was and went into hospital and came out and had to go in again the next day, and they fitted in a pacemaker, which is here.

“And great things they are, too, so I feel fine now.”

Wilde was speaking on the ITV breakfast programme alongside pop star daughter Kim, 59, as they discussed their first ever duet together, titled 60s World.

“I thought it would be a really nice thing to do, especially this year as Kim’s 60,” Marty said. “And it all seems to tie in. We have sung together, but not on a pop record.”

“We recorded earlier in the summer, and we socially distanced,” Kim said. “These are really strange days but I’m determined to make something really positive from them.

“Our new record is a fantastic pop tune, so I’m really hoping it brings a smile to everyone’s face and everyone loves it.”

When asked about her upcoming milestone birthday, Kim added: “I’m just taking each day as it comes, I don’t really think ahead very much.

“Just to see my dad at 81 after his really quite dramatic health scare, he underplays it but it was a very serious time – but for him to come back so strong is so inspiring.”

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays from 6am on ITV
