Gareth Southgate is set to omit Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden from the England squad on Thursday as punishment for their behaviour in Iceland.

The two youngsters were both handed their debuts during last month's international break, but were sent home from Reykjavik in embarrassment after inviting women into the England hotel and breaching the strict bio-secure protocols to protect the squad from any coronavirus outbreak.

Southgate called the pair "naive" at the time and spoke to them individually after the incident. Both their clubs - Manchester United and Manchester City - also condemned their actions.

The fallout is set to continue tomorrow when the England manager names his squad for a friendly against Wales as well as two Nations League games against Belgium and Denmark, all at Wembley.

Greenwood has started just one game for Manchester United since the start of the season while Foden has been named in the starting XI for all three of Manchester City's games in all competitions so far, scoring twice.
