Mass confusion occurred across social media on Wednesday after it was announced that Joanna Lumley would be hosting an ITV special celebrating the 20 year anniversary of American pop band Black Eyed Peas.

ITV announced the “one hour spectacular” as “a music special and portrait of one of the biggest groups in the world.”

“This year will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo celebrate 20 years at the top, and viewers are being invited along to chart their incredible journey. Joanna Lumley presents this very special one-hour spectacular to feature exclusive performances of some of the global super group’s greatest hits,” the ITV press release elaborated.

The 72-year-old veteran actress of Absolutely Fabulous fame seems an odd choice as a host for the noughties popband anniversary. Or at least the people of the internet seem to think so. News of the upcoming show spread like wildfire online, and here are some of the best Twitter reactions so far.

Lumley claims in the ITV press release that she is a ‘friend’ and a ‘big fan’ of the Black Eyed Peas.

“I’m both a friend to and a big fan of The Black Eyed Peas. It’s very exciting to be a part of this and I’m looking forward to it enormously,” Lumley said.

While band member Will.i.am said he is a big fan of the UK.

“I have my family, my Black Eyed Peas family and my Voice UK family. I’ve always felt at home in the UK, and, as a group, we continued to feel Big Love from our fans over here. We are excited to be sharing the backstory of our journey of success with you all,” Will.i.am said.

The ITV special is set to air in December.
