Mass Grave in Raqqa, Syria, May Contain up to 3,500 Bodies

Authorities have uncovered a mass grave containing up to 3,500 bodies in the north Syrian city of Raqqa, a forensic assistant told Agence-France Press on February 21.

Asaad Mohamed told AFP the Fikhikha grave, which dates back to the Islamic State’s control of the city, was considered the largest discovered in Raqqa.

It’s the 14th mass grave discovered in Raqqa and was earlier estimated to contain about 800 bodies, according to the Civil Council of Raqqa.

The grave was discovered on January 20, Asaad Mohamed said.
