Masterchef fans were left disappointed after Fumbi Kolawole lost his place in the competition over Alison O’Reilly – who served up raw venison.

The amateur chef crumbled in the kitchen after his lobster ravioli split and he presented a “soggy” apple crumble that failed to ‘wow’ guest judge Tom Kitchin.

The aerospace engineer – who admitted he had never made pasta before – struggled with time management and keeping track of orders, and at one point confessed: “I'm lost.”

He was sent packing from Shaun Rankin's restaurant Ormer Mayfair over fellow contestant O’Reilly, much to the frustration of viewers who criticised her “blue” venison.

Kitchin was critical about the dish, saying: “It's very blue, actually, I was going to say rare but I'm afraid it's blue. And not many people like blue venison.”

One viewer tweeted: “WTF? So serving raw venison is not enough to get knocked out? If any chef served me that cack I'd be annoyed! #MasterChefUK.”

Another posted: “Sad to see Fumbi go thought his dish was better than the raw venison #MasterChefUK.”

Others said Kolawole was the right contestant to get the boot as he had been on “borrowed time”.

One viewer posted: “I love Fumbi. Great personality for TV but he has been living on borrowed time. Not a good night for anyone. We need a hero!”

Another said: “Fumbi said he made it much further than he ever imagined. He got much further than anyone imagined he would with his cooking MasterChef.”

Speaking about his time on the show Kolawole said: “I have made it much further than I ever imagined I would and learned so much and I think I pushed myself.”

Masterchef is on BBC One, tonight at 8pm.
