The late Matthew Perry received a special tribute at last night's Emmy Awards, which took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

During the 'In Memoriam' segment, which honours all the actors, writers and producers who passed away since the last awards, singers Charlie Puth and The War on Treaty performed a stripped-back version of 'I'll Be There For You' by The Rembrandts. Which of course, fans will remember most as being the theme tune to the classic sitcom, Friends, in which Matthew played the loveable and hilarious, Chandler Bing.

As the musicians performed the song, photos of the late stars were projected onto the screen behind them. Matthew's face was the last one to appear on the moving montage, which was followed by a sea of applause from the audience.

The Friends star's photo then morphed into a collage of all the other significant figures who were honoured during the segment. This included the likes of Angela Lansbury, Angus Cloud, Kirstie Alley, and Norman Lear, who died back in December aged 101.

Following the emotional rendition, plenty of fans took to Twitter to share their heartbreak. Plus, to pay their own tributes to the star.

"A tribute to the great Matthew Perry. We will love you always, friend #Emmys," one person penned, while a second said: "Lost it when Matthew Perry came on and they were singing "I'll Be There For You." #Emmys."

"I was not ready for Matthew Perry at the end #Emmys2024 #EmmyAwards #Emmys," a third added, while a fourth said: "Wow the Friends theme song / Matthew Perry tribute at the #Emmys really just took me out."
