Television presenter Matthew Wright says he won’t be spending Christmas with his heavily pregnant wife Amelia. The couple who have been married for over a decade and are expecting their first child in the new year.

However, Wright says he is choosing to spend Christmas alone. Specifically, fishing alone.

The 53-year-old wrote in a Closer magazine guest column that he intends to spend ‘two weeks fishing, without friends or family’ while his 42-year-old and seven months pregnant wife spends the holidays with her family.

The outspoken host and apparent Grinch also said he hasn’t given a Christmas present or even a Christmas card for over a decade.

Wright’s column includes: “The meaning of Christmas may be about spending time with loved ones, but I have to admit I always spend the day on my own.

“I hate the stress of it and the pressure to spend so much money on presents and food. So I take myself off somewhere for two weeks, fishing, without any friends or family,” he wrote.

The couple are expecting their daughter on Valentine’s Day, and Wright admitted that his wife has insisted that they celebrate Christmas Day together as a family in 2019.

“Amelia loves Christmas, so she spends it with her family, though she has put her foot down and said I’ll be spending the day with her and our baby daughter next year,” he added.

The pregnancy comes after eight years of trying to conceive through IVF, which tragically involved Amelia miscarrying six times.

Matthew has been with Amelia, his second wife, since 2007 and the couple married in 2010.
