People who claim Government benefits may get their payments earlier than usual due to the Bank Holiday next week.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that on Monday, May 27, all Jobcentre Plus offices and phone lines will be closed. It has also confirmed that people due to receive a payment on that day will instead see the money in their bank account this Friday, May 24.

This means people due State Pension or benefits including Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) on Monday should check their bank account on Friday to ensure the payment has been made. If it does not, you will need to contact the relevant DWP department as soon as possible.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has also confirmed similar changes, with offices, webchat and phone lines also set to close on Monday, reopening again on Tuesday, May 28. This will only affect Child Benefit and Tax Credits due on Monday, payments scheduled for Tuesday will not be affected, reports the Daily Record.

The DWP said: “On Monday 27 May offices and phone lines are closed. To make sure people get their payment on a day when Jobcentre Plus offices are open, some payments will be paid early.”
