The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were “forced” to dismiss a night nurse on her second shift for being “unprofessional” and “irresponsible”, a new book about the couple has claimed.

On Tuesday 11 August, Finding Freedom, an unofficial biography of Meghan and Prince Harry written by royal journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand was published.

A spokesperson for the duke and duchess stated that the couple had no involvement in the writing of the book, outlining that the publication “is based on the authors’ own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting”.

The book documents highs and lows from throughout Meghan and Harry’s relationship, from the early days of their courtship to their decision to step down as senior members of the royal family.

Following the birth of their son Archie in May 2019, the couple were reportedly hesitant at first to hire a nanny.

However, after Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland returned to Los Angeles, they decided to “hire a night nurse to establish a sleep schedule and be an extra pair of helping hands”, the authors state.

The first night nurse that the duke and duchess hired was seemingly not a success from the start, with the couple reportedly firing her on her second shift.

“Meghan and Harry were forced to let the nurse go in the middle of her second night of work for being unprofessional and irresponsible,” the authors write.

The couple reportedly hired a second night nurse “who did a fine job”. However, the authors state that their experience with their first night nurse made them feel uncomfortable “sleeping through the night without going to check on Archie regularly”.

According to Finding Freedom, in the end Meghan and Harry decided to hire a day nurse to work during the week and forgo a night nurse.

The couple had reportedly decided between them that they “didn’t want their home filled with staff”.

“He and Meghan liked the idea that when they went to bed at night, it was just the three of them in the house. Cosy and private,” the authors say.

While Meghan and Harry were living at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor with their newborn son, the family reportedly saw a lot of the Queen, while also receiving visits from Princess Eugenie and her partner Jack Brooksbank, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Prince of Wales, were reportedly saw Archie three times in the first four months of his life.

“While Harry and his father were now closer than ever, busy schedules made it difficult for them to spend regular time together,” the authors state.
