Despite stepping back from Royal Family duty, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will always retain their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.

And that still stands even if they were to lose their Royal status, an expert has claimed. The controversial couple has continued to use their titles while engaging in charity work and developing their Sussex brand.

Calls for them to be 'stripped' of their Royal status have emerged from time to time, especially as they leverage it to secure deals with companies like Netflix and Penguin House. However, an expert insists that even if their Royal titles were officially removed, they wouldn't completely lose them. Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, shared her thoughts with The Royal Beat, stating her belief that Harry and Meghan will never be stripped of their titles, reports the Mirror.

She said: "I don't think anything will happen to the titles because, if they lose their titles, Harry is still a prince of the blood and Meghan, instead of being the Duchess of Sussex, [would] be Princess Henry. That really would [confuse the Americans]. I think [it's] probably best just to leave it because it looks unkind, it looks unnecessary."

She went on to say: "The Queen gave them the titles, let them keep them - they're going to be 'H and M' anyway. I think the best thing is to leave them, ignore them, and let them get on with it - which is really what the Palace and the Royal Family are doing."

Prince Harry's full moniker is Prince Henry Charles Albert David and, according to Royal custom, a woman marrying a prince can assume a princess title, but only in conjunction with her husband's name. This would imply that for Meghan, she could adopt the title of Princess Henry, yet she is more commonly referred to as the Duchess of Sussex, the Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel.

This scenario also applies to Kate Middleton, whose official titles include Princess William, alongside the Duchess of Cambridge, the Countess of Strathearn and Baroness Carrickfergus. Speculation remains heavy that if Harry were ever to become a full US citizen, it could mean renouncing his Royal sovereign title.

For Harry to attain a US passport, he would need to make an Oath of Allegiance. This dictates that he must "renounce all allegiance to any foreign prince, state or sovereign".

The entire oath states: "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have here to fore been a subject or citizen."
