Meghan Markle’s wedding make-up was the perfect modern bridal look; a glowing minimal take which celebrated the freckles on her skin.

Since then, it has become one of the most requested celebrity make-up looks. And it turns out it was planned with the help of Pinterest.

Meghan’s close friend and wedding make-up artist Daniel Martin revealed on an episode of the podcast Gloss Angeles how he and the Duchess arrived at her final look.

Martin, who counts the likes of Gemma Chan, Jessica Alba and Elisabeth Moss amongst his client list, has known Meghan for ten years and worked as a contributing writer for her popular lifestyle blog The Tig before it was closed down in 2017.

Martin said, “I knew what she liked and what she didn’t like. And then we exchanged Pinterest pictures over text.”

He also added that the pair took a gamble, as the first time he did the final look on Meghan was on her wedding day itself. He said, “I didn’t have a make-up trial with her because we just didn’t have the time.”

Martin used a number of products on Meghan Markle which include a lipstick, mascara and blusher from Jessica Alba's natural make-up line Honest Beauty, as well as a number of Dior products (Martin is a Dior brand ambassador). To find out what products he used specifically, here's an exact breakdown of Meghan Markle's wedding make-up.

Daniel explained that Meghan is “the most chill person” and that the royal wedding was “kind of a blur” to him. Speaking about the day of the wedding, he said, “That morning was just, like, easy. That’s why it didn’t - nothing fazed us. She’s not that person to [stress about photographs]... It’s weird because I mean, she’s still the same person.”

Martin also continued that he had “zero” idea that doing Meghan’s make-up on that fateful day would change the course of his career. He said, “I mean, literally, it was like a friend asking me to do her wedding. And I was like, ‘I’m happy you’re happy, of course I’ll do your make-up.’ But I didn’t anticipate being asked to the wedding either.”

“It didn’t really hit us - [Meghan Markle’s wedding hairstylist] Serge and I - until we were in the car and we understood the capacity of what that day was going to be like. Because we were driving behind her and we were seeing people who had been outside for hours trying to just get a glimpse and that’s when we were like, s**t this is major,” he continued.”

Martin and Meghan continue to have a close friendship, as the artist has previously hinted on Instagram at visits to see Meghan for a very millennial tea, dubbing her a "consummate hostess" and “#avocadotoast whisperer”.

Following Meghan and Prince Harry’s move to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, Martin also shared a number of Instagram stories from Windsor which suggested he was one of the Sussex's first guests. He also proudly proclaimed himself “guncle” to Baby Archie on Instagram.

One person who was pretty enamoured with Martin’s artistry on Meghan was actually her husband Prince Harry, as he revealed to InStyle that Harry “kept saying thank you”.

He said, “After the ceremony Harry kept saying thank you. He was thanking me for making her look like herself.”
