Meghan Trainor reveals Australian inspiration for her son's name

Meghan Trainor has revealed the Australian inspiration for her son's name.

The Made You Look singer was influenced by a popular movie when she named her son Barry Bruce, born in July last year.

In an interview with Australian radio host Kyle Sandilands, Meghan admitted she had first started to think about the name after spending time with him when they worked together on reality TV series Australian Idol in the first half of 2023.

"Barry was in my belly when I was next to you. I told you his name was Bruce but then changed it to Barry Bruce at the last minute," she explained on Kyle's Australian radio programme The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

"Remember I told you that you sound like the big shark in Finding Nemo, Bruce? I thought of him, and I told you on our break I was going to make a baby."

Ultimately, Meghan revealed she named her son after the Finding Nemo character, having been reminded of the animated shark by Kyle's Australian accent.

"I named him Bruce, because he is my Australian baby!" Meghan said.

Bruce the great white shark was voiced by the late Australian comedian Barry Humphries in the 2003 Disney movie - with the actor's first name also partly inspiring Meghan's final decision for her son's moniker.
