Mel B takes aim at Mariah Carey over disastrous New Year’s Eve performance

The outspoken former Spice Girl has shared her opinion on the global superstar’s disastrous New Year’s Eve performance, suggesting that she may have LOST her signature vocal abilities.

Just like the rest of us, Scary Spice (or is it Shady Spice?) watched on as the We Belong Together singer’s performance in Times Square, New York, faced a string of embarrassing technical difficulties, but later wondered if it had actually all gone awry because Mariah has lost her musical muscle power.

Mel, who hosted NBC’s ‘New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly’ at the event on December 31, told US daytime talk show The Real: “I was watching, going, ‘What is going on over there?’ because I was trying to lip-sync along to her song, pretending I was Mariah, and then it all stopped, and then I looked over and I couldn’t believe what I was actually seeing.”

Sharing her criticism, she added: “As a performer, as somebody on TV, if something happens, you just keep going.

“Your first reaction is to not let silence go too long, so I was in complete shock. I was like, ‘Why did you let that happen?’ And this is Mariah, who’s an amazing singer and an amazing performer.”

The America’s Got Talent judge then waded even further into the deep drama water to speculate over whether the five-time Grammy award winner is able to hit the same notes that she used to effortlessly belt out in the ‘90s and early ‘00s.

She quizzed: “Maybe she doesn’t have that voice anymore… I hate to say it… I think maybe she was having a rough day vocally and didn’t even want to attempt that when it actually came to singing live because some of the track was pre-recorded, all of the high notes, and some of it was just blank for her to sing live.”

In defence of her shambolic stage appearance, Mariah took to Instagram to share a stony-faced selfie alongside a defiant message after the gig, writing to her 5m followers: “S*** happens… Have a happy and healthy new year everybody!… Here’s to making more headlines in 2017…”
