Meryl Streep Nails Impression of Nicole Kidman While Revealing Skinny Dipping Story from “Big Little Lies” Days

Streep, 74, made a speech in Kidman's honor at her costar's AFI Life Achievement Award Gala

Meryl Streep's talent knows no bounds — and now she can officially add perfect impressionist to her list of skills.

During a speech to honor her friend and costar Nicole Kidman at the actress' AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, Streep, 74, shared a story from her days on set of Big Little Lies and thrilled the crowd with a hilarious impression of Kidman, 56.

"Reese [Witherspoon] told me — the very first night we were up in Monterrey, before we started shooting, she said, ‘Do you know what she does?’" Streep said in her speech. "I said, ‘No. Nicole?’ She goes, ‘Yeah. You know what she does? She goes out at 5, before dawn, and she goes skinny dipping behind the hotel in the ocean.’"

"And I looked at Nicole and I said, ‘Are you kidding me? The Pacific [Ocean] is like 48° in March,'" Streep continued, before delighting the crowd with her impersonation of Kidman's Australian accent. "‘Yeah,’ she said, ‘I love it. Oh yeah.’"

Streep was one of many stars who gave speeches at the April 27 ceremony in honor of Kidman, including Witherspoon, Zac Efron, Naomi Watts and her husband Keith Urban. Kidman and Urban's daughters Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith Margaret, 13, were in attendance as well, and she told PEOPLE on the red carpet that it was so special to have her "incredibly loving" teenagers with her.

"They are here to support me and they're very, very supportive," she said.

While her other Big Little Lies costars Zoë Kravitz, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern were not in attendance at the AFI Award Gala, the ladies will all be reuniting soon as they've confirmed that a third season of the HBO hit series is on the way.

Kidman accidentally let the secret out in November as she told fans during an event, "We will be bringing you a third one," which caused some problems for her co-producer, Witherspoon, 48.

“Listen, this one already went somewhere and said too much and then I get the call, the ‘ring, ring,’ like, ‘Hey, is that happening?’" Witherspoon said in a Vanity Fair video.

Kidman said she "didn’t realize" and "got excited."

"It’s okay, baby, I get excited too," Witherspoon said, before revealing that the other major cast members were quick to get in touch with her when they heard the news. "Then I’ve got Laura calling me, and Zoë, Shailene. They’re all like, ‘Nic said that we’re making Big Little Lies 3.’"
