Met Gala 2024 theme, dress code and co-chairs revealed

NEW YORK — Performers Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya will join Vogue editor Anna Wintour as co-chairs for the 2024 Met Gala set to be held on May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Vogue on Thursday announced this year’s event, titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” inspired by the Costume Institute’s 33,000 piece garment collection.

Curator Andrew Bolton pulled 250 items from that inventory — some of which are centuries old — for a complimentary exhibit running from May 10 to Sept. 2.

VIPs attending the ball have been tasked with interpreting a dress code defined as “The Garden of Time.”

The star-studded gala is credited for raising more than $223 million for the Costume Institute since the annual shindig began in 1948.

While tickets aren’t easy to score, Lopez has been invited to the event 13 times, according to The Associated Press. Zendaya has reportedly been asked to the ball five times, while Bad Bunny has made the guest list three different years. This year’s Met Gala will be the first for Chris Hemsworth.

The controversial social media platform TikTok is sponsoring this year’s gala, with help from the fashion brand Loewe.

The red carpet ahead of the gala is one of the biggest celebrity spectacles of the year. In the event’s more than seven-decade history, stars from Princess Diana and Andy Warhol to Kim Kardashian and Rihanna have all donned elaborate outfits tailored to the gala’s theme.
