Few British bank holidays manage to go ahead without any wet weather and sadly it’s looking like the early May break is going to be no different.

While it’s set to be a mild start to the week, meteorologists have predicted that the weather will turn wet and thundery across Yorkshire on Monday.

The weather forecast for Yorkshire on Monday, May 6, according to the Met Office is: “Early fog patches clearing to give a dry and bright start. However, showers will break out from late morning, locally heavy and possibly thundery at times. Warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 19C.”

Huddersfield - Cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning. Highs of 18C and lows of 11C. Sunny conditions are expected between 7am and 11am, before thundery showers take over at midday. Sheffield - Sunny intervals changing to light rain by lunchtime. Maximum temperatures of 19C with lows of 11C. The best of the sunshine is expected between 6am and 12pm, with cloudy conditions and rain taking over at 2pm. The heaviest rain is expected around 4pm. Cloudy conditions will continue into the evening and overnight.

York - It will be a cloudy day in York on Monday with minimum temperatures of 12C and maximum temperatures of 18C. Visibility is expected to be good throughout the day and wind speeds will remain low. There will be a 10 percent chance of rain throughout the day, with it looking likely that the North Yorkshire city will escape any downpours.

Bradford - Cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning with highs of 18C and lows of 11C. The best of the sunshine is expected between 9am and 11am before cloudy conditions take over for the remainder of the bank holiday. Rain is expected around 3pm. Low wind speeds will continue to make it feel mild.

Leeds - Cloudy changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime. Maximum temperatures of 19C with lows of 11C. The best of the sunshine is expected between 11am and 2pm, with some lunchtime showers expected at 1pm. It will feel humid throughout the day.
