A new thunderstorm warning has been issued across parts of Gloucestershire today. Forecasters say this bout of bad weather, which comes after heavy rain and thunderstorms overnight, could lead to flooding and travel disruption as well as power cuts and lightening strikes.

The warning is in place across parts of Gloucestershire from 12pm-11.59pm today (Thursday, May 2). Heavy rain is expected to hit Gloucestershire from around 5pm and the Met Office warns that as much as 50mm of rain could fall in just a couple of hours.

The Met Office says: "Thunderstorms developing this afternoon and evening may lead to travel disruption and some flooding." It comes only hours after an earlier weather warning ended in the region, after the forecaster published two thunderstorm warnings in the county yesterday.

The forecaster said: "While some areas will remain remain dry, thunderstorms are likely to develop this afternoon and evening from the east and move relatively slowly westwards or northwestwards.

"Where thunderstorms occur, heavy rain accompanied by frequent lightning is likely with potential for 25 to 30 mm of rain to fall in 1 or 2 hours in a few places and perhaps as much as 50 mm could fall in one or two spots. In a few places there may also be some hail."
