Michael Carrick dismisses 'silly' speculation over Paul Pogba's Manchester United future

Michael Carrick has dismissed speculation over Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United.

Pogba, the Red Devils’ record signing when he arrived from Juventus for £89million in the summer of 2016, was left on the substitutes’ bench during both legs of United’s Champions League elimination to Sevilla.

Since then both United boss Jose Mourinho and Pogba have moved to downplay speculation that a rift between them could force the player out.

Indeed Pogba insisted earlier this week that he “doesn’t have to be best friends” with Jose Mourinho and that he had responded to his benching with improvements on the pitch.

Outgoing United captain Carrick, who is set to join Mourinho’s coaching staff next season, sees no cause for concern.

“It’s a bit of a silly question really,” Carrick told Sky Sports.

“Of course he's got a future, he's a big player for us, he's a great age, he's got his peak years ahead of him.

“It’s not even something I'd give a second thought to, to be honest.”
