Michelle Pfeiffer misses planned “Scarface ”reunion at 2024 Oscars
The actress was set to reunite with costar Al Pacino, but he ended up presenting Best Picture alone.
Sunday's Oscars ceremony saw plenty of reunions — from Twins costars Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger to Beetlejuice alums Catherine O'Hara and Michael Keaton. But at least one planned reunion didn't come to fruition.
EW has confirmed that Scarface costars Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer were planning to reunite on the Dolby Theater stage at the 96th Academy Awards, but ultimately Pfeiffer had a conflict that kept her on the East Coast (not for a "family emergency" as was previously reported).
Instead, Pacino presented Best Picture — the final award of the night — solo. The actor took the stage to a standing ovation, and he quickly got down to business: Instead of reading out the names of every Best Picture nominee, he simply opened the envelope and announced the winner: "My eyes see Oppenheimer!"

Al Pacino flies solo at the OscarsPacino and Pfeiffer starred opposite each other in Scarface as Cuban drug cartel leader Tony Montana and gangster's moll Elvira Hancock. When the movie premiered in 1983, Pacino was already a well-established star and widely associated with the gangster genre thanks to the success of The Godfather films. He first conceived of a new Scarface after seeing the original 1932 film, and he helped shepherd it to the screen attached to the title role.
Pfeiffer was largely unknown at the time, having previously only starred in Grease 2, which had barely been released when Scarface began filming. But the film established her as an icon of the 1980s and a talented actress.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino in 'Scarface'Both Pacino and Pfeiffer are multi-time Oscar nominees. Pacino has been nominated nine times across the supporting and lead actor categories. He's won only once, in 1993 for his work in Scent of a Woman. Pfeiffer has never won an Oscar, though she has been nominated three times, once for Best Supporting Actress and twice for Best Actress.
Scarface itself did not receive any Oscar nomination, however its influence and pop culture legacy on everything from fashion to hip-hop is massive.
