XBox And PS4 Gamers Will Soon Be Able To Play Together For First Time
Microsoft has announced that it will allow Xbox One, PS4 and PC gamers play together.
Xbox One and PC gamers will be able to compete against each other in the game Rocket League, the company said.
But Microsoft hinted that PlayStation 4 gamers could also be joining the party.
In a blog post, Microsoft ID@Xbox director Chris Carla wrote: “In addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well.
“This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.”
He added: “Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players.”
Up to now, Xbox users could only play other gamers on Xbox Live, while PlayStation gamers were restricted to the PlayStation Network (PSN).
If the networks were to open to players of all consoles, it would change the video games market radically.
