Midsomer Murders fans are desperate for answers after their favourite drama returned to screens on Sunday night, only to then 'vanish' from schedules after just one episode.

Now 23 series in, Midsomer Murders is one of the most popular dramas on British television and after the end of Vera, Trigger Point and Passenger, it was back in its usual 8pm slot on April 14, with Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix returning as Barnaby and Wilson in two hour feature length tale The Blacktrees Prophecy.

As guest stars like EastEnders and Strictly's Nina Wadia and comedy icon Kate Robbins joined them, the cops investigated the death of a man whose body was found in a bombproof shelter, with the final few minutes of the episode proving to be compelling viewing as the duo stopped the killer in their tracks in the nick of time before they claimed another victim, before a chase through the woods finally brought them to justice.

Given its popularity, there was a lot of excitement about Midsomer Murders being back on ITV, however, those fans delighted to see it on their screens again have now been left disappointed and frustrated, having found out that the transmission dates for the remaining three parts are nowhere to be found.

It had been assumed that they would air over consecutive Sundays, but with the second episode of Britain's Got Talent's new series and the debut of new Richard Armitage thriller Red Eye taking over listings on Sunday, April 21, Midsomer Murders is notably mission in action, with no announcement at the end of Sunday night's instalment on when it would be back.

Annoyed at Midsomer Murders being 'replaced' so early into its new run, one upset fan took to X (Twitter) to complain: "why is there no Midsomer Murders next week? come on only one new episode. Or have we got up wait until Britains got no talent ends to see more" A second reacted: "ITV need to stop messing with loyal Midsomer Murders fans."

Among the many disgruntled posts from Midsomer Murders fan, was another which read: "So whats happening next week then they're advertising something else at 9pm?" as a fourth responded: "Yup, no MM next week, @ITV using it again as a random filler. Its so frustrating"
