Mike Thalassitis' ex Megan McKenna in 'complete shock' as she breaks silence on Love Island star's death

Megan McKenna has broken her silence on the death of her ex-boyfriend Mike Thalassitis, telling fans she has been left in “complete shock”.

Thalassitis, who appeared on Love Island in 2017, was found dead in a woodland close to his Essex home on Saturday.

Singer McKenna, who dated the reality star last year, opened up on the news on social media as she attempts to “come to terms” with the news.

“Sorry I haven’t been on social media but I’m in complete shock and trying to come to terms with this,” she wrote. “I can’t believe I’m even writing this post.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Mike’s family. Rest in peace Mike.”

McKenna initially faced backlash for not commenting on the stars’ death, after a slew of stars paid tribute. But she was defended by others who flocked to her defence with messages of support.

One user wrote: “Let the lady grieve in peace she doesn’t need to post on social media just to let everyone know she is upset it’s very clear she is upset and had chosen to remain silent and grieve in her own way x”

Another added: “Thinking of you Meg, stay strong.”

“Sorry for your loss Megan, so so sad,” added a third.

The emotional tribute comes after Thalassitis’ former Celebs Go Dating co-star Sam Thompson opened up on the death, telling fans he felt he could have “done more” to help him.

He wrote: “A person just died. A friend just died. Someone that I know in my heart of hearts I could have done more for. I met Mike on Celebs Go Dating. I was told he was joining the show with me and my heart sank.”

Thompson went on to open up on how he initially judged Thalassitis when he first joined the show after he was left feeling “insecure” over Thalassitis’ “perfect” looks.

He added: “This Alpha Male had come over, and knocked me for 6. What happened next surprised me. He came over to me, handed me a drink, apologised for not saying hello earlier, told me he was terrified and said he couldn't wait to hang out more.

“I stood there rather ashamed at how badly I had just judged a book by its cover. Over the next few months, the shame only grew. This guy was one of the most polite gentlemen I had ever met.”

Celebs Go Dating viewers were left in tears after Sunday night's episode was dedicated to the late reality TV star.

After the show ended on Sunday night a photo of the star appeared on-screen alongside the words: “In memory of Mike Thalassitis 1993-2019.”
