Mikkel Beck names three factors he believes can help Middlesbrough achieve promotion this season

Mikkel Beck has named three factors he believes will help Middlesbrough win promotion back to the Premier League next season.

The Dane, currently working as pundit for TVSporten at Euro 2024, has taken some time out from his focus on all things happening in Germany right now to offer his thoughts on former club Boro. Having been an important part of the promotion-winning squad of 1998, he knows what it's like to be in the current position at the Riverside.

Michael Carrick has made his ambitions to win promotion this season clear, having twice competed for the honour in both of Carrick's seasons in charge to date. Arriving in October two years ago, Carrick led Boro on a great run that ended in a play-off finish but eventual heartbreak at the hands of Coventry City. Last term, a slow start due to a huge squad overhaul in the summer, followed by restrictive injuries throughout the season, meant they narrowly missed out on the top six in the end.

But backing them to win promotion this time around, Beck told TVSporten at Euro 2024: "I back Middlesbrough to have a chance of promotion. In the last year they have been up there every season, and this year they just missed out on the playoffs but they will be there again.

"They have a good side and a good manager, plus fantastic supporters who will help their team to hopefully win promotion. I hope for my former club they will get promoted. It's where the club belongs."

Beck is the latest of a host of former Boro players who have backed the club to go all the way in the upcoming season since last term finished. Gary Pallister, Bolo Zenden, Gaizka Mendieta and Szilard Nemeth have all come out in support of Carrick and the work he is doing, with Boro officials feeling similarly confident and handing the head coach a new long-term contract.
