Miley Cyrus fans have joked that the singer’s new album is being sabotaged by Hannah Montana’s enemies after Spotify went down on the morning of its release.

Miley Cyrus’s seventh studio album Plastic Hearts was released on Friday (27 November), with fans desperate to listen to the rock-inspired record for the first time.

However, many fans in Europe were unable to tune in after music streaming service Spotify stopped working on Friday morning.

“I just want to listen to Miley Cyrus’s new album and now Spotify is down?” one fan questioned.

“Why is Spotify down just when I am about to listen to @MileyCyrus new album,” another commented.

This led a number of fans to joke that Cyrus’s album launch was being sabotaged by characters on the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana, in which Cyrus played the titular teenage pop star, also known as Miley Stewart.

One such villain was Mikayla Skeech (played by Selena Gomez). One Cyrus fan tweeted: “Not Spotify being down on the day of Miley’s album release... I’m sure Mikayla is behind this.”

Another suspected culprit was LuAnn Stewart, Miley’s evil cousin that Cyrus also played on Hannah Montana.

“Spotify down on the morning of Miley’s album release? Her evil cousin LuAnn HAS to be behind this,” one fan joked.

However, some fans found the positive in Spotify being down, with one Twitter user writing: “The way Miley shut down Spotify omg her power.”

The Independent’s Helen Brown gave Plastic Hearts a four-star review, calling it “a truckload of fun, brimming with Cyrus’s reckless soul-bearing charisma”.
